Overview

As a Project Engineer in the Specialist Projects Team, you will deliver engineered, cost‑effective solutions within a regulated utility setting. You will manage design coordination, tendering, and contract processes to drive value from the Capital Construction Programme. You’ll lead on CDM compliance, health, safety and environmental standards, while aligning delivery with business and regulatory targets. This role offers broad exposure to multi-discipline projects and a clear path for progression. You’ll work with cross‑functional teams to protect communities and support Yorkshire’s water future.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver cost‑engineered solutions to business risks
  • Coordinate design and ensure projects follow the approved engineering management process
  • Ensure CDM compliance and undertake duties as Principal Contractor where applicable
  • Manage project execution aligning with HSE and engineering standards
  • Prepare contract and scope documentation and lead tender processes with framework contractors
  • Apply robust financial controls and maintain commercial awareness throughout delivery

Key requirements

  • Electrical, ICA, mechanical or process engineering apprenticeship or Engineering degree or equivalent
  • ONC/HNC/BTEC in Electrical, ICA, Mechanical or Process Engineering
  • Strong understanding of CDM regulations and practical application
  • Knowledge of control of works (Permits, POWRA, RAMS, LOLER, EWAR)
  • Experience with electrical, ICA, mechanical and process equipment to engineer solutions
  • Understanding of design and project delivery processes, hazard identification, risk assessment and site supervision
  • Experience with DSEAR, ATEX Directives, British standards; COSHH regulations and standards
