Overview
In this role you lead design quality across pre-application and application stages, guiding major planning schemes and city projects with a focus on heritage-aware development. You will provide specialist urban design advice, promote public art, and shape masterplans, development frameworks, and policy documents. The position supports a customer-centred design service and aims to conserve Liverpool’s historic environment while enabling growth. Your work will connect design excellence with public service impact, shaping key sites and corporate projects.

Responsibilities
- Lead design promotion at pre-application and application stages across scales of schemes
- Provide specialist urban design advice and ensure a high-quality, customer-focused service
- Conserve heritage while enabling appropriate development across the City
- Prepare masterplans, development frameworks, and planning policy documents
- Deliver design guidance and briefs for key city sites and major proposals
- Advise on all types of applications with emphasis on major proposals
- Promote good practice design guidance and support public art initiatives
Key requirements
- Experience in urban design and masterplanning within planning environments
- Ability to prepare development frameworks and planning policy documents
- Proven track record advising on major planning proposals
- Understanding of heritage conservation and integration with development
- Experience delivering design guidance for key sites
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
