Engineering Lead

Overview

As Engineering Lead, you will own maintenance operations to keep equipment reliable and uptime high on a fast-moving site. You will lead a maintenance-focused team, drive continuous improvement, and foster a proactive engineering culture aligned with site performance goals. You’ll manage planned maintenance via CMMS, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults, and lead projects with suppliers and cross-functional partners. Your role blends hands-on problem solving with coaching to raise team capability and safety standards. This is a high-impact, fast-paced opportunity to shape reliability and operational excellence in a leading food production environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support the engineering team to deliver safe, reliable, and cost-effective maintenance activities
• Manage planned preventative maintenance programmes and drive improvements through the CMMS system
• Provide hands-on support with mechanical and electrical fault finding and breakdown response
• Prioritise engineering activities in line with production requirements to minimise downtime
• Lead engineering projects, collaborating with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders
• Identify and deliver improvements to equipment reliability, safety, and operational efficiency
• Develop safe systems of work and engineering procedures
• Coach, mentor, and develop the engineering team to improve capability and performance
• Monitor engineering output to ensure high standards of workmanship and compliance
• Build effective relationships with contractors and ensure documentation and procedures are in place

Key requirements

• Previous experience leading, mentoring, and developing engineering teams
• Strong mechanical or electrical engineering background
• Hands-on maintenance and fault-finding capability
• Experience in a manufacturing, production, or FMCG environment
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities
• Proactive mindset with a passion for continuous improvement
• Team player with the ability to lead from the front
