Lead SCADA & Automation Engineer – HVDC

Overview

In this role you will design and implement secure SCADA/HMI architectures for AC substations and HVDC projects, bridging IT infrastructure and control systems. You will collaborate with customers and suppliers, guiding technical configuration and ensuring delivery aligns with standards. You will lead automation initiatives, mentor the team, and strengthen network security across DCS/SCADA/HMI environments. This position blends field site work with office duties, within a collaborative HVDC team.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop secure SCADA/HMI network architecture for AC substation and HVDC projects
• Hands-on IT infrastructure work (routers, firewalls, switches, servers, workstations) and basic networking
• Review supplier documentation during project execution
• Lead discussions with customers and coordinate with suppliers on key configurations
• Foster collaboration with stakeholders across project execution
• Plan and coordinate site activities with multiple suppliers
• Strengthen security for connections to DCS/SCADA/HMI networks
• Lead automation projects and mentor the team to meet business requirements
• Ensure delivery meets customer requirements and standards

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Control, or Communication Engineering
• Proven SCADA/HMI application development experience using Micro SCADA / Zenon
• Hands-on experience with Micro SCADA and Substation Automation products
• Understanding of UK electricity industry standards (National Grid, SSE/SPEN, DNO) and approvals
• Excellent design capability in control systems engineering
• Knowledge of communication protocols and interfaces: MODBUS, DNP3, IEC 61850, IEC 60870
