Overview

As a Principal Engineer in London, you apply fundamental engineering and scientific techniques to real-world problems in failure analysis, risk mitigation, and product development. You will cultivate client relationships, identify new business opportunities, and lead teams in advanced technical analyses to grow Exponent’s Electrical Engineering & Computer Science Practice. You will oversee projects, provide expert witness work, and mentor staff, while communicating complex conclusions to engineers, legal professionals, and business stakeholders. Responsibilities

  • Lead projects for failure analysis, root cause investigations, product development and expert witness engagements
  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities; promote Exponent through industry and legal channels
  • Contribute significantly to expanding Exponent’s electrical engineering and/or computer science/engineering consulting efforts
  • Provide strategic consulting and expert witness services
  • Provide project management and budget oversight
  • Develop and mentor staff in technical and business areas
  • Guide and perform testing and analysis of electrical and electronics field failures
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and analytical or computational modeling
  • Plan and execute testing programs
  • Prepare written reports, proposals, and presentations
  • Domestic and international travel as required
  • Gather information from and convey technical conclusions to engineers, legal professionals, business and industry

Key requirements

  • Ph.D. or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science/Engineering, Physics, or a related field
  • Strong practical and theoretical understanding of fundamental principles in Electrical/Electronics Engineering and CS
  • Significant experience generating business and managing client relationships with an existing client base
  • Proven track record in technical consulting in Power Engineering and Energy; Electronics and Semiconductors; Control Systems and Automation
  • Prior experience delivering expert witness testimony is required
  • Current Chartered Engineer (CEng), if applicable
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to communicate technical conclusions to diverse audiences in engineering, legal, business, and industry
