Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this Mechanical Engineer role, you will provide mechanical engineering support across naval platform systems within the Warship Technical Authority (WTA) Service Hub. You will help manage system requirements, maintain design integrity, and enable evidence-based decisions through analysis and investigations. The position sits in the Asset Management team, supporting multiple naval programmes and ensuring safe, compliant change implementation. Your work will influence how complex naval platforms are designed, tested, and maintained, contributing to safer and more capable ships. Responsibilities

• Provide mechanical engineering support across naval platform systems and marine services
• Manage platform system requirements with internal teams and external stakeholders
• Maintain design integrity across various classes and programme deployments
• Support investigations and analyses to enable data-driven decisions
• Assist safe and compliant design changes with configuration control and system integration

Key requirements

• Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer with relevant industry experience
• Working towards professional registration (e.g. IMechE or equivalent)
• Basic understanding of complex naval platforms, systems and equipment
• Knowledge of engineering standards, governance, assurance and compliance requirements
• Effective stakeholder engagement with MOD, navies, OEMs and industry partners
• Experience in mechanical systems design assurance, product lifecycle management, requirements compliance, engineering documentation, 2D/3D CAD, equipment design or maintenance, trials delivery (e.g. FATs), and safety case development
