Overview
In this role, you lead a small cloud-focused team to deliver Derbyshire’s cloud migration ambitions, moving from on-premises to Microsoft Azure. You shape and execute the cloud strategy, ensuring secure, resilient, and cost-effective services for citizens. You’ll work closely with stakeholders to enable modern ways of working and drive meaningful change in a transformation-heavy environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a small technical team within Digital Services to deliver proactive cloud services
- Drive the migration from on-premises data centres to Microsoft Azure and manage Azure compute, networking, and related services
- Ensure services meet agreed standards and levels, with a focus on security, resilience, and cost-effectiveness
- Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to translate requirements into cloud solutions
- Champion new ways of working, innovation, flexibility, and forward planning within the cloud function
- Provide technical leadership and governance in ITIL-aligned, security-conscious operations
- Participate in cloud migration programmes involving datacentre, server, and application moves
- Support the New Ways of Working programme to modernise critical services
Key requirements
- Extensive experience with Microsoft 365 administration (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint Online, Intune, Copilot)
- Deep knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, Conditional Access, PIM, MFA, identity governance, hybrid identity, and Zero Trust
- Proven experience managing Azure IaaS and PaaS services, VMs, storage, monitoring, automation, backup, DR, and cost optimization
- Expertise in Azure networking and enterprise connectivity (VNets, firewalls, VPNs, ExpressRoute, SD-WAN, DNS, DHCP, ZTNA)
- Track record leading cloud migration programmes covering data centre, server, application, and file migrations
- Technical leadership and service management, including supplier management and ITIL/governance compliance
- Strong communication and ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences
- First-line management or readiness to lead a small technical team
