Role Description
The Senior Support Worker role is a full-time, on-site position based in Castle Donington. The Senior Support Worker will provide direct care and structured support to children and young people, helping them develop life skills, emotional resilience, and positive routines. Responsibilities include overseeing daily activities in the home, supporting educational and recreational engagement, maintaining safeguarding standards, and promoting the physical and emotional wellbeing of children. The role involves leading and mentoring other support workers, contributing to care plans, maintaining accurate records, and communicating effectively with families, social workers, and external professionals. The Senior Support Worker will also participate in team meetings, follow regulatory and organizational policies, and help create a safe, consistent, and nurturing environment.
Qualifications
- Experience working as a Support Worker or in a similar care role, with a solid understanding of children’s residential care.
- Strong interpersonal skills and communication abilities to build trusting relationships with children, colleagues, and external professionals.
- Knowledge of safeguarding practices and regulatory requirements, with the ability to implement and uphold safety standards.
- Ability to provide technical support related to care documentation, reporting systems, and basic IT used in daily operations.
- Relevant qualification in health and social care (e.g., Level 3 or above) or equivalent experience in children’s services.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and support junior staff, contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
- Resilience, patience, and reflective practice skills to manage challenging situations and support trauma-informed care.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays, in line with the needs of the home.
