Engineering Lead – Account Management

Overview

As Engineering Lead for the Account Management team, you guide product-enabled banking experiences, balancing hands-on coding with team growth. You own the technical roadmap for core money-movement systems, while partnering with Product and Design to deliver customer-centric capabilities. You’ll drive architectural decisions, ensure reliability, and unblock delivery across backend, web, and mobile. This role sits at the heart of Wise’s mission to simplify everyday money and scale across partnerships and products.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineers, promote their growth, and ensure quality deliveries
• Write code, review designs/PRs, and drive end-to-end features across backend, web, and mobile
• Own the team’s technical roadmap, shaping system evolution and managing tech debt
• Provide sharp feedback to PM and Design on what to build and why
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Account Sharing, Send, Wise Platform) to align on money movement and product integration

Key requirements

• Strong backend engineering background with hands-on guidance of senior engineers
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures and microservices
• Track record of ensuring reliability, scalability, and correctness of critical systems at scale
• Proficiency in JVM ecosystem (Java/Kotlin) and Spring Boot
• Experience leading a team and delivering outcomes
• Clear communicator capable of technical debates and broad explanations
• Product mindset focused on customer and business impact
• Bias to action with ability to navigate ambiguity while preserving quality
