Overview

As an AI-focused backend engineer, you will build and evolve the technology platform behind a diverse insurance portfolio. You’ll work in a small, agile team, shaping architecture and engineering practices while embedding AI into software development. The role combines cloud-native backend work with exploration of AI to boost productivity and product value, using Claude and related patterns. You’ll contribute hands-on, cross-functionally, across a greenfield environment with meaningful impact on engineering and product delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain backend services in C# (with Python exposure valued) and cloud-native architectures
  • Explore and integrate AI capabilities into processes and products using tools like Claude
  • Influence system design, patterns, and best practices to improve scalability and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure frontend-backend connectivity and cohesive architecture
  • Operate as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, startup-like environment
  • Support CI/CD, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes) and infrastructure tooling (Terraform) for automated deployments

Key requirements

  • Strong backend software engineering skills in C# (Python beneficial)
  • Solid CS fundamentals (OOP, multithreading, design patterns)
  • Knowledge of cloud-native architectures (Azure/AWS), event-driven systems, microservices
  • Experience with CI/CD, Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker
  • Understanding of frontend-backend connectivity; React or Angular skills preferred
  • Collaborative, strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Experience in startup/small team environments (advantage)
