Senior/Principal/Associate Civil/Structural Engineer

Overview

As a senior civil/structural engineer, you will lead T&D civil and structural design, act as Design Manager, mentor engineers, and shape proposals for UK power infrastructure. You’ll drive technical authority on major projects, lead training programs, and represent Ramboll at senior technical and client meetings. This role offers influence over strategy, people development, and delivery of landmark T&D schemes.

Responsibilities

• Act as Design Manager / Lead Engineer for T&D civil and structural projects (substations, OHL foundations, cable routes)
• Deliver compliant designs aligned with UK standards (Eurocodes, BS EN) and National Grid/DNO specs
• Review, approve, and mentor designs from junior engineers; oversee design risk, technical assurance, and value engineering
• Lead the training strategy for civil/structural engineers within T&D; deliver technical and design standards training
• Conduct structured workshops on T&D best practices; mentor graduates and mid-level engineers
• Attend client, bid, and marketing meetings as senior technical representative; influence proposals and scopes
• Build long-term relationships with DNOs, National Grid, ICPs, and EPC contractors
• Provide technical input to project planning, resourcing, risk management, and growth of T&D service offering
• Support innovation, digital engineering, and design efficiency initiatives
• Ensure CDM regulations and health and safety requirements are met in all designs

Key requirements

• BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered Engineer (CEng MIStructE / MICE)
• 10+ years’ experience in civil/structural engineering with strong T&D exposure
• Proven T&D experience including substations and power networks
• Experience with National Grid and DNOs (UK Power Networks, SSEN, SPEN, WPD)
• Experience in framework delivery environments
• Demonstrated lead engineer, design manager, or technical authority roles
• Strong knowledge of UK design standards, Eurocodes, and CDM Regulations
• Confident client-facing communicator; experience mentoring engineers
• Full UK driving licence
