Lead Data Scientist – KYC/Onboarding

Overview

In this role you lead data science initiatives within Wise’s KYC and onboarding function, applying ML techniques to mitigate risk while preserving a smooth customer experience. You’ll own model training, evaluation, and lifecycle management, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver production-ready solutions. You’ll mentor junior engineers and researchers, staying at the forefront of machine learning to improve document verification. Responsibilities

• Plan and ideate data science projects with cross-functional teams
• Identify opportunities to apply ML/data science techniques in KYC/onboarding
• Communicate value and limitations of data science initiatives to stakeholders
• Manage and create large image and tabular datasets for KYC
• Iterate on deep learning image models for document verification
• Measure, optimize, and monitor model performance
• Maintain and develop a large Python codebase with best practices
• Stay updated with ML advances and translate them into production systems
• Mentor junior team members and promote skill development
• Collaborate on domain research to prevent criminal activity
• Contribute to production-ready data science solutions in a compliant and scalable way

Key requirements

• Experience in leading data science projects in a production environment
• Strong understanding of ML model lifecycle, training, testing, and evaluation
• Proficiency in Python and ML tooling
• Experience with image models and large-scale datasets
• Ability to communicate complex ML concepts to diverse stakeholders
