Engineering Manager (London)

Overview

In this Engineering Manager role at Zopa, you lead multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering high-quality products used by millions. You own outcomes, guide teams through ambiguity, and shape cross-functional collaboration with Product and other partners. You influence decisions, raise delivery standards, and ensure quality and reliability across the software lifecycle. You will grow engineers, support their progression, and contribute to a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow engineering teams across product-engineering tribes (Current Account, Product Enablement, Operational Efficiency)
• Partner with Product and stakeholders to plan, trade off decisions, and address challenges early
• Drive change beyond formal authority by building coalitions and shaping cross-functional thinking
• Identify opportunities using customer feedback and service data to improve quality and reliability
• Help teams deliver confidently through complexity while maintaining a high technical bar across the SDLC
• Communicate clearly with engineers, product partners, and stakeholders, explaining what you do and why
• Own outcomes and make decisions in ambiguous situations, setting priorities for the team

Key requirements

• Experience as an Engineering Manager with a track record of supporting engineers’ development, performance, and progression
• Self-driven and proactive with the ability to work with minimal direction
• Strong opinions balanced with openness to learning and changing your mind
• Able to reflect on past mistakes and apply lessons learned
• Strong facilitation of collaboration and influence across functions
• Maintains high technical standards and experience building, running, and improving production systems
