About the Role

A growing and well-established accountancy practice in Helston is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join its team.

This is a hands-on position combining technical accounting, taxation, client relationship management and team supervision. The successful candidate will play an important role in managing a portfolio of clients while supporting the wider day-to-day operations of the practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage new client onboarding, including setup and support with online accounting systems
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients and act as a key point of contact
  • Respond to client queries and liaise with HMRC where required
  • Review client records and follow up on missing or incomplete information
  • Prepare Self-Assessment, VAT and Corporation Tax returns
  • Manage payroll and CIS-related work
  • Prepare and finalise accounts for companies, partnerships and sole traders
  • Produce management accounts and financial reports
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services to clients
  • Review client engagements and assess their ongoing commercial viability
  • Lead client tax review meetings
  • Keep up to date with relevant accounting, tax, AML and regulatory requirements
  • Supervise, mentor and review the work of junior team members
  • Support the smooth running of office systems, processes and workflows
  • Assist directors with practice management, workload planning and deadlines
  • Undertake other accounting and practice-related duties as required

Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A recognised accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent
  • At least 5 years’ experience working within an accountancy practice
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation, taxation and VAT
  • Experience managing client relationships and/or supervising team members
  • Good knowledge of accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or similar
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, professional and client-focused approach
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently

Additional Requirements

  • ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent qualification
  • Minimum 5 years’ accountancy practice experience
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Ability to reliably commute to Helston, Cornwall
  • Strong English communication skills
