Overview

In this placement, you will split time between design and construction teams to gain real-world experience on live projects within the Northumbrian Water framework. You’ll assist design and site teams across planning, drawing, surveying, QA, and site activities, supporting delivery from design through to completion. The role emphasizes hands-on learning, cross-functional collaboration, and developing your professional network. It offers mentorship, regional travel, and potential for future permanent opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, design, construction, commissioning, handover and completion of projects
  • Assist the Project Leader (Designer) with preparing design, technical drawings and documentation per processes and contract requirements
  • Assist the Site Engineer with setting out line & level of structures and pipework using surveying equipment
  • Assist the Site Engineer with QA and completing ITRs in line with procedures
  • Assist Site Manager & Site Engineer with supervising safety, health & environment on site
  • Assist with day-to-day site activities including materials and plant requisition and processing delivery tickets
  • Liaise with designers, support teams and supply chains
  • Assist with producing as-built surveys and records
  • Assist with compiling completion documentation per client process

Key requirements

  • full-time undergraduate Civil Engineering student
  • basic understanding of civil engineering principles
  • excellent communication and teamwork skills
