Overview

In this role you drive profitable, high‑quality underwriting across broad construction risks for AXA XL’s UK & Lloyd’s portfolio. You will shape risk strategy, maintain broker and client relationships, and contribute to portfolio growth and forecasting. You’ll assess risk quality, price for profitability, and oversee policy issuance and claims input, acting as a market-leading partner to clients and brokers. This is a chance to influence CAR/EAR strategy while working in a collaborative, inclusive team.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and manage a wide range of construction risks to deliver profitability and quality
  • Review submissions, policy wordings, inspection reports and loss runs to assess risk
  • Price risks considering technical costs, reinsurance structures, and expenses to sustain profitability
  • Operate within authority levels and contribute to business planning and forecasting
  • Monitor exposures, premium income, and portfolio performance against plan
  • Build and maintain broker/client relationships to support new business and retention
  • Provide risk management guidance to clients and identify cross-selling opportunities
  • Review loss control reports and endorsements to ensure accurate policy issuance
  • Monitor notified claims and contribute to claims strategy and settlements
  • Report to Head of Construction, UK & Lloyd’s

Key requirements

  • Proven experience underwriting construction projects profitably
  • Excellent understanding of CAR/EAR market factors
  • Established broker/client network, including renewables relationships
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Strong analytical, negotiation and commercial abilities
  • Proficiency with pricing tools and solid Excel knowledge
  • Familiarity with broker manuscript and CAR/EAR wordings
  • Understanding of linesize management and portfolio steering
