Overview

As Electrical Engineering Team Lead, you guide a team of engineers, designers, and subcontractors on substation projects across Western Canada. You drive technical excellence, safety, and timely delivery while shaping the design of critical electrical infrastructure. You’ll mentor staff, collaborate with diverse teams, and support proposals and procurement to advance a clean energy future. This role blends leadership with hands-on engineering to solve complex grid challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Clarify and exceed client project scope expectations
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and development opportunities for the team
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure regulatory compliance
  • Offer subject-matter expertise and professional engineering advice
  • Prepare and review technical reports, standards, and engineering documentation
  • Conduct engineering studies (power flow, short circuit, grounding, etc.) and lead detailed substation design
  • Develop equipment specifications and support construction, testing, and commissioning
  • Assist in proposal development, project planning, and cost estimation
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex challenges
  • Ensure QA/QC processes for high-quality deliverables
  • Perform site visits to verify installations and support project scope definition

Key requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
  • 8+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience in transmission and distribution, focusing on substation design and maintenance
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Excellent communication and attention to detail
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Experience with or at BC Hydro is an asset
  • Equipment engineering experience is an asset
  • Experience with CYMCAP, ETAP, CDEGS, WinIGS, Autodesk Inventor is an asset
  • MS Office, Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD experience is an asset
