About the role
Are you an experienced people manager with a passion for delivering great customer service? Are you looking for a role where you can lead a fantastic team while helping to raise vital funds for people with complex disabilities?
Were looking for a Shop Manager to join our team at our Sense shop in Shirley, Solihull.
This is a permanent role, working 30 hours per week across four days, with a salary of 13.20 per hour. You’ll work 7.5-hour shifts across Monday to Sunday, so full flexibility across the week is required.
As Shop Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the shop, leading your team to maximise sales, control costs and generate vital income for Sense. You’ll create a welcoming environment for customers while ensuring excellent standards across everything from customer service and merchandising to stock generation and shop presentation.
A big part of your role will be building, developing and motivating a brilliant team of staff and volunteers. You’ll create a positive working environment where everyone feels supported to contribute and provide an excellent experience for our customers.
You’ll also play an active role within the local community, promoting Sense and finding new opportunities to generate donated stock, recruit volunteers and support fundraising.
Some key areas of responsibility will include:
Leading, motivating and developing your team of staff and volunteers
Maximising sales and managing costs to help achieve the shop’s targets
Delivering excellent customer service and maintaining high shop standards
Creating attractive displays and ensuring the shop is clean, organised and welcoming
Driving stock generation and building relationships within the local community
Ensuring stock is priced, rotated and managed effectively
Managing shop administration, cash handling and security procedures
Maintaining a safe environment for customers, staff and volunteers
Supporting the wider retail team and providing cover at other shops when required
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who can bring energy, organisation and strong people skills to the role. You’ll be comfortable taking ownership of the shop while creating an environment where your team can thrive.
You’ll need:
Experience of recruiting, managing and motivating a team
Experience of delivering excellent customer service
Strong organisational and prioritisation skills
The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
Confidence working with numbers and completing administrative tasks
An interest in and awareness of fashion trends
Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with the public
The ability to motivate yourself and others
The ability to handle confidential information appropriately
A professional and respectful approach when working with customers, colleagues and volunteers
Previous experience within a retail environment, alongside knowledge of selling and merchandising, would be an advantage but isn’t essential.
You’ll need to be flexible and willing to work Saturdays, some Sundays and Bank Holidays as required. The role also involves handling stock, including lifting heavy or bulky items, and you may occasionally be asked to provide support at other Sense shops.
