Overview

As an Electrical HV Engineer at Tata Steel Colours, you will oversee High and Low voltage distribution activities at Shotton Works, ensuring reliable electrical services across 33kV to 415V. You will work within the Electrical Distribution team to maintain switchgear, test protection systems, and support HV/LV integration with end users. You will contribute to risk-based safety, maintenance planning, and project delivery while developing apprentices and aligning with local procedures. This role offers hands-on engineering impact in a large, sustainability-focused steel operation, with opportunities to optimize networks and contribute to safety and reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor HV and LV distribution system conditions at Shotton Works
  • Adhere to safety and environmental procedures and contribute to health and safety plans
  • Undertake preventive and corrective maintenance on LV distribution systems
  • Support HV engineering manager in HV network projects and maintenance
  • Develop and mentor apprentices; deliver HV and LV training modules
  • Review and update maintenance procedures as needed
  • Run and maintain standby generators
  • Assist in fault resolution at HV/LV interface with end users
  • Test the works earthing network
  • Be authorized to deputize for HV engineering manager
  • Contribute to plans to rationalize the HV/LV network by removing unnecessary sections

Key requirements

  • Practical experience in switchgear maintenance and HV network knowledge (advantageous)
  • Good communication skills and familiarity with company procedures
  • Strong risk awareness in planning and execution
  • Ability to plan activities and supervise personnel
  • Working knowledge of SAP is preferred
  • Willingness to be trained and to support both HV and LV domains
  • Capacity to deputize for HV engineering manager
