Electrical Design Engineer

Overview

In this role you will design and technically support industrial control panels for a global friction welding manufacturer in the Birmingham area. You will work on wiring drawings, BOMs, and design documentation while ensuring compliance with standards. You’ll collaborate with suppliers and guide best practices in panel design, developing test rigs and prototype systems to demonstrate performance. The position offers exposure to a multinational engineering environment and opportunities to impact safety and compliance across lifecycles.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and configure standard and custom electrical wiring drawings with BOMs
• Ensure designs meet regulatory, design, and testing requirements
• Produce design documentation including drawings, calculations, and specifications
• Collaborate with suppliers to meet performance standards
• Provide technical guidance and promote best practices in industrial control panel design
• Maintain compliance with design and testing standards throughout project lifecycles
• Develop and support test rigs, simulation models, and prototype control systems
• Generate safety approval and sign-off documentation
• Perform calculations per applicable standards (e.g., BS EN 13849) and understand IEC 60204

Key requirements

• AutoCAD Mechanical/Electrical
• EPLAN
• Microsoft Office
• Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and control panel design
• Familiarity with safety and compliance standards
• HND or Degree preferred
