Vickerstock are working in partnership with a leading engineering and building services organisation on the appointment of an HSE Advisor for a major Data Centre project in Finland.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HSE professional to join a large-scale European construction project within the rapidly growing data centre sector.
Working closely with project management, site teams and subcontractors, you will provide a visible HSE presence across the project, ensuring high standards are maintained across complex engineering and construction activities.
In your new role:
- Provide day-to-day HSE advice and support to project and site teams
- Maintain a strong site presence, engaging regularly with supervisors, employees and subcontractors
- Carry out site inspections, safety walks and compliance audits
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable legislation
- Review RAMS, Safe Systems of Work and other project HSE documentation
- Monitor higher-risk construction and installation activities, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented
- Support Permit-to-Work processes across relevant site activities
- Deliver and support site inductions, toolbox talks and safety briefings
- Monitor subcontractor HSE performance and challenge unsafe practices where required
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and ensuring corrective actions are closed out
- Maintain accurate HSE records, reports and project performance data
- Support environmental compliance across waste, pollution prevention and material management
- Assist with emergency preparedness and project-specific HSE arrangements
- Work closely with project management, contractors and client representatives to continually improve HSE performance
What you’ll need to succeed:
- NEBOSH General, NEBOSH Construction or equivalent recognised Health & Safety qualification
- Previous HSE experience within construction, engineering, M&E, energy, data centres or another high-risk project environment
- Strong practical understanding of construction Health & Safety and Safe Systems of Work
- Experience carrying out site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations
- Experience reviewing RAMS and supporting Permit-to-Work arrangements
- Practical incident investigation and corrective action experience
- Good understanding of contractor and subcontractor HSE management
- Strong communication and influencing skills with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices
- Ability to operate effectively within a fast-paced, international project environment
- Flexibility to be based in Finland for the project
Desirable (it would be great if you have this, but don’t worry if you don’t):
- Previous data centre or mission-critical project experience
- Experience working on European construction or engineering projects
- M&E or Building Services project experience
- Exposure to high-risk activities including lifting operations, working at height, electrical works and commissioning
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems
