Overview

In this role you design, build, and maintain laboratory robotics to automate exploratory biology, enabling high-throughput screening and automated cell culture. You work hands-on across engineering disciplines, collaborating with scientists to translate assays into automated workflows. You’ll manage automation projects and ensure a reliable, compliant environment while advancing scaling and data capture. This position combines hands-on engineering with project leadership in a cutting-edge bio-lab setting.

Responsibilities

  • Primary support engineer for laboratory automation and instrumentation in Cambridge, MA
  • Set up, operate, and maintain HTS systems for automated workflows
  • Collaborate with scientists to automate bench assays using HTS systems
  • Act as project manager for automation initiatives from start-up to completion
  • Work with cross-disciplinary teams to improve throughput, cost efficiency, safety, and environmental practices
  • Establish and maintain a stable automation environment through QC and preventive maintenance
  • Assist in developing SOPs, maintenance manuals, startup procedures, and train new users
  • Multitask effectively and manage timelines; work independently and in teams

Key requirements

  • B.S. in mechanical, electrical or bioengineering, or similar engineering discipline
  • 3+ years experience servicing and implementing automated systems
  • Experience designing, building and deploying automated laboratory workflows in life sciences or clinical laboratories
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills for interactions with staff, customers, stakeholders, and vendors
  • Strong computer skills including MS Office and CAD (preferably SolidWorks)
