UK Senior Manager High Hazard Technical Safety

Overview

In this role you will act as the UK Technical Safety Authority for complex, safety-critical activities across the business. You will lead the High Hazard Management (HAM) framework, ensuring governance, assurance and ALARP risk reduction. You’ll influence senior leaders, regulators and customers to secure safe, compliant delivery across a diverse programme portfolio. You will drive continuous improvement, develop capability, and champion a proactive safety culture in a cutting-edge defence environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve the UK High Hazard Management (HAM) framework across high-hazard activities
• Act as the recognised UK Technical Safety Authority providing expert interpretation of legislation and standards
• Oversee high-hazard risk management across disciplines (OME, RF, Laser, Diving, etc.) ensuring ALARP compliance
• Lead high-hazard governance activities and reviews (Hazardous Activity Scrutiny Panel, audits, investigations)
• Provide strategic risk leadership to senior leaders on risk acceptance, tolerability, and regulatory developments
• Develop organisational capability and safety culture, establishing competence frameworks and driving continuous improvement

Key requirements

• Extensive HAM expertise and safety risk control in complex environments
• Recognised Technical Safety Authority experience with interpretation of legislation and policy
• Deep knowledge of defence high-hazard operations and UK defence standards
• Proven ability to govern HAM frameworks, assurance programs and compliant activities
• Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement with senior leaders, regulators and customers
• Track record of incident investigations and embedding proactive safety culture
