Overview
As a Project Engineer in a London-based rail contractor, you will oversee signalling installation, testing and commissioning on site and in the office. You will liaise with the Engineering and Construction teams to plan resources, review designs, and ensure compliance with standards. The role combines field supervision with documentation and approvals to keep projects on track. You will shape delivery on high-profile rail schemes and contribute to safer, more reliable signalling systems. This is a hands-on opportunity to influence project success from site to sign-off.
Responsibilities
- Produce project paperwork (WPP, TBS, permits, ITPs, risk assessments, As Builts, assurance documentation)
- Manage on-site signalling installation, testing and commissioning
- Collaborate with the construction manager to plan and resource works, update project programmes
- Review design documents for compliance with standards and conduct constructability/value engineering reviews
- Prepare and raise Technical queries as needed
Key requirements
- Proven experience in signalling installation, testing and commissioning
- Experience in technical approvals of signalling designs (IDC/IDR review)
- Experience working to construction standards and tolerances
- Desirable: London Underground and Network Rail signalling systems experience
- Good knowledge of other rail disciplines and interfaces
- Experience managing subcontractors
- IT literate
- Degree level or equivalent in electrical engineering or relevant subject
- Signalling installation, testing and commissioning
- Technical approvals of signalling designs (IDC/IDR)
- Construction standards and tolerances
- London Underground/Network Rail signalling systems (desirable)
- Knowledge of rail disciplines and interfaces
- Sub-contractor management
