Overview
In this Contracts Manager role, you will oversee major water and civil engineering projects across the North West, ensuring on-time delivery, budget control, and high health, safety and quality standards. You will lead cross-site programme management, procurement, and commercial reporting, while developing strong client and subcontractor relationships. The position blends leadership of operational teams with rigorous risk, design, and contract administration. This is a chance to drive significant infrastructure delivery within a reputable civil engineering contractor.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning, programming, and successful delivery of civil engineering and water projects across multiple sites
- Monitor costs, resources, forecasts, margins, and commercial performance, including monthly cost value reconciliations
- Manage procurement, subcontractor engagement, cost plans, risks, opportunities and commercial reporting
- Oversee tender handovers, pre-start meetings, project reviews, progress meetings and action/decision records
- Ensure design activities are resourced and delivered per project requirements
- Provide leadership across operational teams, including recruitment, reporting lines, training and progression
- Promote health, safety, environmental compliance and quality to align with requirements
- Build relationships with clients, subcontractors, communities and stakeholders to minimise disruption
Key requirements
- Extensive experience managing civil engineering or water projects
- Strong knowledge of contract conditions, CDM regulations, design and programme management, risk management and cost control
- Understanding of NEC contracts
- Experience with Microsoft Project and Primavera P6
- Experience supporting pre-qualification and tendering processes for multidisciplinary projects
- SMSTS and CSCS certification
- NEBOSH Construction Certificate
