Overview
In this role you will provide specialist one-to-one support to students facing enduring or complex mental health difficulties, including those in crisis. You will manage a caseload, assess needs, and apply solution-focused interventions while coordinating with internal and external partners. The position emphasizes safeguarding, risk management, and collaboration to help students engage with their studies. This role offers a chance to influence mental health support across the university and contribute to a welfare-first culture.
Responsibilities
- Provide specialist interventionist support to students with enduring or complex mental health difficulties or in crisis
- Maintain and manage a caseload with professional standards, escalate risks as needed
- Develop referral routes to internal and external support services
- Support students in crisis and liaise with internal/external services
- Help students understand the impact of mental health on study engagement and progression
- Promote mental health and wellbeing and provide expert advice and staff training
- Work with internal and external stakeholders to reduce barriers to academic engagement
Key requirements
- Experience providing one-to-one support to adults with mental health, emotional, or psychological difficulties
- Experience in a multiagency environment and building effective relationships
- Ability to assess needs and apply solution-focused interventions
- Experience managing caseloads and maintaining records with data protection
- Experience delivering mental health awareness training and supervising colleagues
- Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
- Ability to work independently, make timely decisions and escalate when needed
