Overview
In this role you lead a controls engineering team focused on design, development, and maintenance of control systems for abatement projects. You collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software specialists to ensure performance, safety, and regulatory compliance. You drive continuous improvement, support customers, and mentor junior engineers to build capability in controls systems. This position offers cross-functional impact and hands-on leadership in a hybrid Bristol setting.

Responsibilities
- Lead a team of controls engineers with clear goals and priorities
- Stay updated on control systems technology and implement process improvements
- Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, and software teams for seamless project integration
- Ensure control systems meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards via testing and validation
- Provide technical support and resolve complex control system issues
- Mentor junior engineers to develop expertise in controls engineering
- Engage with customers to clarify requirements and provide technical support as needed
Key requirements
- HND (or equivalent) in a relevant technical discipline (essential)
- 3 years in controls and software within relevant industries (desirable)
- Good spoken and written English (essential)
- Occasional customer site visits (desirable)
- PLC programming – ladder logic, structured text, function blocks, data structures (essential)
- HMI programming using VB.net or other high level languages (essential)
- Communications protocols – Modbus TCP, EtherCAT (desirable)
- Creation of technical documentation (essential)
