Overview

In this role you lead electrical engineering within Sustaining Engineering to ensure safe, compliant and reusable designs across product lines. You’ll guide design governance, standards and technical outputs while coordinating factory support, obsolescence management and field upgrades. You work with cross-functional teams to clarify work packages, resolve issues and drive repeatable solutions across the sustaining portfolio. You will mentor engineers, promote best practices and new technologies to improve delivery and customer value. This is a strategic leadership position at the Bristol site with a clear impact on in-service performance.

Responsibilities

  • Chair and assure design reviews to ensure technical rigor
  • Set and maintain electrical engineering approaches for sustaining projects
  • Ensure solutions are aligned and repeatable across the sustaining portfolio
  • Collaborate across factory support, obsolescence management and field upgrade initiatives
  • Mentor and coach the electrical engineering team across levels
  • Advocate adoption of best practice electrical engineering and new technologies
  • Oversee safety and type testing, review and approve related reports
  • Identify risks, mitigations and escalation paths for product/system designs
  • Ensure modularity and standardisation to maximise reuse of engineering effort

Key requirements

  • Degree in Engineering/Science (essential)
  • Significant sustaining engineering / product lifecycle support experience
  • Ability to influence across multiple disciplines and stakeholders without direct authority
  • Structured problem solving, risk assessment and verification thinking
  • Deep technical competence in one or more engineering disciplines; quick understanding of adjacent domains
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills with data-driven root cause analysis
  • Good grasp of engineering change, configuration control and technical documentation practices
  • Ability to plan and execute verification activities (test/analysis) and assess risk (e.g., FMEA)
