Overview
In this role you lead high‑voltage design for UK substations and cabling within a global engineering team. You’ll shape transmission projects for diverse clients, ensuring design quality and compliance with UK/Irish standards while mentoring junior engineers. You’ll coordinate multi‑disciplinary work and build strong client relationships, contributing to a sustainable energy future. This position combines hands‑on HV design with leadership across project teams, offering opportunities to influence major infrastructure and offshore projects.

Responsibilities
- Contribute to design of projects for a wide range of clients
- Plan design work and deliverables with the project team (civil and MEP)
- Develop and technically assure designs using relevant software
- Ensure compliance with UK/Irish DNO and National Grid standards
- Coordinate multi‑disciplinary aspects of projects
- Mentor junior team members in design
- Foster relationships with clients and stakeholders
Key requirements
- Relevant degree in electrical engineering, power systems engineering or similar
- Chartered Engineer status or equivalent
- Experience with UK & Irish DNO standards; National Grid experience and Senior Authorised Person would be beneficial
- Hands‑on experience in designing HV systems 33–132 kV (GIS, AIS, transformers up to 500 MVA, P&C, Aux. systems, CT/VT sizing, earthing, bonding and lightning protection)
- HV installations above 132 kV including offshore substations would be an advantage
- Experience coordinating designs with other disciplines and acting as discipline lead
- Experience applying CDM2015 regulations to design tasks
