Principal/Senior HV Cable Design Engineer – Energy

Overview

Join Stantec’s Energy Team as an HV Cable Design Engineer to help deliver major renewables, HVDC interconnectors and substation projects. You will collaborate across disciplines to develop innovative, sustainable solutions for the UK energy transition. This role offers exposure to a wide project range, from FEED to detail design, with opportunities to lead and coach others. You’ll work with key T&D clients and contribute to shaping the future of electricity transmission and distribution. A meaningful role in a growing, collaborative team with clear impact on energy infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Design across concepts, FEED and detail for transmission & distribution systems (utility-focused, international standards)
• Coordinate interdisciplinary work and resolve design issues with leads
• Develop cable installation designs: routing, trenching, bonding, phasing, pulling, termination and jointing
• Apply CYMCAP for cable sizing and analysis per international standards
• Collaborate closely with other disciplines and mentor junior team members
• Support or lead projects on HV cable and substation design for renewables and interconnectors

Key requirements

• Experience in HV cable design and substation-related civil engineering projects
• Design experience (Concept, FEED, detail) for transmission & distribution systems
• Proficiency in CYMCAP or equivalent cable sizing tools
• Interdisciplinary coordination skills
• Proficiency in MS Office; AutoCAD or MicroStation
• Bachelor in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with professional registration as Chartered Engineer preferred
