Overview

In this role you will act as the technical authority for MV/HV submarine cable design within the R&D team, leading development from concept to delivery. You will establish and apply design rules, standards, and documentation, while solving complex technical issues and managing risks. You will mentor engineers and collaborate with clients, suppliers, and internal teams to improve quality and efficiency. The position supports advancing dynamic inter-array cable systems for floating offshore wind and related power solutions, contributing to the growth of our renewables portfolio. This is a hands-on leadership role at the intersection of design, testing, and technology development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership on MV/HV submarine cable design within the R&D team
  • Lead and deliver R&D projects from concept through to completion
  • Develop and maintain cable design rules, standards and documentation
  • Perform cable design calculations, technical studies and product assessments
  • Identify technical risks and resolve complex technical queries
  • Manage non-conformances and design-rule deviations
  • Collaborate with internal teams, clients and suppliers throughout the product lifecycle
  • Develop and integrate new technologies, templates, calculations and engineering tools
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers
  • Support development of dynamic inter-array cable systems for floating offshore wind

Key requirements

  • Engineering degree (preferably electrical or mechanical); physics considered
  • Chartered Engineer status or ability to achieve chartership in reasonable timeframe
  • Extensive HV submarine cable experience in offshore wind and/or oil & gas
  • Strong knowledge of submarine cable construction, rating, operating limits, manufacture, installation and operation
  • Working knowledge of IEC standards and CIGRE recommendations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical-reporting skills; detail-oriented
  • Experience in fast-paced engineering environments and cross-functional communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
