Overview
In this role, you will lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure, guiding projects from feasibility to construction. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams and clients to deliver high‑quality, compliant designs that support critical urban water systems. You’ll drive technical delivery, mentorship, and the adoption of digital design tools across projects. Responsibilities
- Lead and review mechanical designs for wastewater and water infrastructure projects, including site surveys and coordination with clients, contractors and suppliers
- Design pumping stations and pumping system analyses, headloss calculations, and equipment specifications (valves, screens, grit removal, penstocks)
- Develop plant and pipework layouts, odour control systems, and P&IDs; prepare technical specs, data sheets, and schedules
- Participate in all design stages (Feasibility to Construction) ensuring compliance with design standards
- Collaborate with other discipline teams and stakeholders to deliver solutions; mentor junior staff
- Lead bid and proposal preparation, engaging directly with clients to capture needs and expectations
- Ensure timely, budget-conscious delivery of quality designs; review client deliverables to standards
- Support adoption of AECOM’s digital strategy (BIM, ProjectWise, intelligent P&IDs, in-house tools) on projects
Key requirements
- Extensive design experience in managing large-scale water engineering projects
- BEng or MEng in a related engineering field with water and wastewater experience
- Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Institution
- Proven experience in team leadership, mentoring and line management
