Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical design within Arup’s data centre and critical facilities team, focusing on low-energy, low-water solutions and resilient systems. You will collaborate with architects, engineers and specialists to deliver integrated concepts across the UK, Europe, India and Africa. You will mentor junior colleagues and drive continuous improvement in design and delivery. The position offers leadership development and exposure to high-impact projects that shape modern data centres and critical environments. Responsibilities

  • Manage mechanical design concepts for data centres emphasizing energy and water efficiency
  • Coordinate design analysis and optimise systems with the wider team
  • Oversee production of models, drawings and specifications
  • Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines
  • Mentor junior colleagues and support personal development
  • Contribute to a culture of learning and continuous improvement
  • Deliver socially useful work that benefits clients and communities

Key requirements

  • Chartered Engineer (or within 6–12 months of achieving it) in Building Services (CIBSE / IMechE)
  • Experience across all data-centre design and construction stages including cooling, PUE/WUE, resilience/TIER, testing/commissioning
  • Strong commercial awareness to plan and manage resources to meet financial targets
  • Proficient in energy-modelling tools (IES) and 3D modelling (Revit); familiar with 6Sigma CFD for data-centre applications
