Overview
In this role you will lead the technical delivery of highways, public realm, and active travel schemes for a growing, employee-owned consultancy in Richmond. You will own project design packages, collaborate with clients and stakeholders, and support bids and business development while mentoring junior staff. The role covers feasibility to construction, with emphasis on safety, sustainability, and buildability across a diverse project portfolio. Responsibilities
- Deliver highways, public realm, active travel and road safety schemes from feasibility to construction
- Take technical responsibility for projects and design packages
- Produce and review high-quality highways design deliverables
- Engage with clients and stakeholders to develop practical engineering solutions
- Support project and commercial management including programmes, resources and deliverables
- Provide technical input into larger and more complex projects
- Support bids, fee proposals and business development activity
- Mentor and support graduate and junior engineers
- Collaborate with colleagues across the wider business
- Ensure designs consider health and safety, sustainability and buildability throughout the project lifecycle
Key requirements
- Strong experience in highways and/or public realm design
- Experience delivering projects from feasibility through detailed design and construction
- Good knowledge of UK highways design standards and processes
- Experience with Civil 3D, AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
- Experience working with local authorities, developers or other public/private-sector clients
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Chartered or working towards Chartered status would be advantageous
