Overview
In this role you will contribute to Ontario highway projects by applying MTO standards and advancing design from planning through execution. You will work within a team of highway engineers and designers on rehabilitation, replacement, widening, and expansion projects, while managing risks and delivering high-quality technical work. The position combines design development, field coordination, and documentation to support safe, efficient transportation infrastructure. Responsibilities
- Design highway engineering components on MTO projects from planning to execution
- Develop highway design for functional studies, preliminary and detail design
- Coordinate with engineers and designers within project teams
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks to minimize delays and costs
- Contribute to field investigations, geometric and drainage design, pavement marking, signage, and construction staging
- Integrate MTO active transportation plans and standards into designs
- Prepare technical reports and QA/QC of deliverables
- Assist in business development including proposals, methodologies, schedules, and budgets
Key requirements
- 3+ years of MTO experience in Preliminary and/or Detail Design
- P.Eng. licensed with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
- Knowledge of MTO standards and policies
- Knowledge of highway design, construction, maintenance, traffic operations, and contract delivery
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, OpenRoads Designer, Microstation, and AutoTurn
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills, with ability to manage remote or hybrid teams
