Overview
As a Principal Highway Engineer, you will lead the technical delivery of complex highways and public realm schemes. You will mentor engineers, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and ensure designs meet high standards. You’ll work closely with clients to shape project strategy and deliver innovative solutions across London and the UK. Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of highways, streetscape and public realm projects from concept through to construction
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across multiple design teams
- Develop highway designs in accordance with DMRB, TfL Streetscape Guidance, LTN 1/20, LCDS, TSRGD and other relevant standards
- Manage project programmes, resources and technical outputs
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders
- Mentor and develop engineers across the team
- Oversee statutory undertaker coordination and multidisciplinary project delivery
- Ensure compliance with CDM 2015 and industry best practice
- Identify innovative engineering solutions that deliver value for clients
- Support the continued growth and technical excellence of the highways business
Key requirements
- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience
- Extensive highways design experience within a consultancy environment
- Excellent technical knowledge of highways design standards
- Strong project leadership and coordination experience
- Experience managing multidisciplinary project teams
- Excellent client-facing and communication skills
- Experience mentoring and developing engineers
- Strong commercial awareness and project management skills
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng), or working towards professional accreditation
