Senior To Associate Mechanical Engineers – Data Centres (Building Services)

In this role, you will lead the design of mechanical systems for data centres within a Mission Critical Facilities team in Birmingham, contributing to high-profile, technically challenging projects. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate client needs into compliant, deliverable designs and specifications. The position offers scope to shape mechanical distribution from CHW to LTHW, monitor installation, and advise on optimal systems. Responsibilities

• Lead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipment
• Develop design options and write design development notes for client review
• Produce technical specifications and calculations for tender, ensuring standards compliance
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers and other disciplines
• Monitor installation to ensure conformance with employer requirements and safety codes
• Conduct feasibility studies and lead detailed design of mission critical facilities
• Provide advisory support to clients on mechanical systems to meet business needs
• Resource planning and scheduling within the design programme

Key requirements

• Experience designing mechanical systems for data centres
• Chartered status or working towards Chartered status with CIBSE or IMechE (or equivalent)
• Technical MEP knowledge of UK/EU regulations and design guides
• Understanding of Uptime Institute Tier Classification System
• Familiarity with TAS of IES and Hevacomp for project work direction
• Experience with RevitMEP and AutoCAD; 3D design tools
• Team leadership and mentoring abilities; capable of working under client direction
• Ability to work to timescales and deadlines
