Overview

In this Lead Engineer role, you guide development of high-power sub-systems within directed energy, translating customer needs into robust solutions. You’ll work closely with customers and partners to shape programmes and mentor early career engineers in a fast-paced environment. You will operate across the full lifecycle, from concept through to demonstration and low-rate production, contributing to impactful defense technologies. Responsibilities

  • Act as technical expert guiding development of high-power sub-systems in directed energy
  • Build relationships with customers and partners; help define and bid deliverable programmes
  • Mentor and develop teams of early career engineers
  • Translate customer needs and operational context into robust technical solutions
  • Oversee lifecycle execution from concept to demonstration and low-rate production

Key requirements

  • Thorough understanding of physics underpinning testing and development of high power systems (power electronics and devices) in directed energy
  • Strong grasp of mathematical modelling for design and performance prediction in power electronics, power supplies, high power source design, RF effects, and related manufacturing constraints
  • Knowledge of measurement techniques for development and assessment
  • Experience progressing from concept through to demonstration and production
  • Engineering background with ability to translate customer needs into solutions
