Overview

As Boats New Build Project Engineering Manager, you will lead the design, development and delivery of new-build naval projects to meet customer, regulatory, and programme objectives. You will guide multi-disciplinary teams through design development and reviews while interfacing with classification societies to secure approvals. You’ll manage resources, risk, and bids, supporting future growth in maritime capabilities. This role sits at the core of shaping advanced Littoral Strike Craft solutions within a mission-driven, innovation-focused environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Littoral Strike Craft design to meet customer and regulatory requirements
  • Guide multidisciplinary engineering teams through design development, reviews, and product maturity milestones (PDR/CDR)
  • Interface with Classification Societies (e.g., Lloyd’s Register, DNV) for approvals and compliance
  • Support programme delivery with engineering planning, resource management, risk mitigation, reporting, and bid/BOE preparation
  • Lead subcontractor engagement, make/buy decisions, SOW development, and performance management
  • Recruit, develop, and manage engineering resources to ensure objective delivery

Key requirements

  • Strong engineering leadership experience delivering multi-disciplined maritime, naval, defence, or new-build programmes
  • Knowledge of marine classification rules and approval processes with Classification Societies
  • Proven ability to lead design reviews, systems integration, and product lifecycle management from concept to detailed design
  • Experience managing engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders across locations
  • Working knowledge of design/analysis tools such as NX, Maxsurf or equivalent
  • Chartered Engineer or ability to achieve Chartership in the short term
