Chartered Structural Engineer

Overview

In this role you lead and deliver structural projects, applying Chartered engineering expertise to manage teams and resources. You will ensure designs meet ISO 9001 and SER procedures while maintaining profitability and client satisfaction. The role blends technical design with project leadership, risk awareness, and professional development. You’ll work closely with the Director and contribute to the firm’s profile in highways, transport and infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Managing projects and project staff to deliver results
• Resourcing and work planning in coordination with the Director
• Prepare design calculations following ISO 9001 and SER procedures
• Take responsibility for your own training and development
• Prepare project risk assessments and maintain safety standards on site
• Monitor and contribute to project profitability; assist with fee quotations when scope changes
• Assist the Director with weekly workload review
• Carry out structural design work, inspections and reports as required
• Communicate effectively via letters and reports
• Monitor financial performance of projects
• Maintain continuing professional development and keep up-to-date with technical developments and legislation
• Support profitability and raise the company profile with external clients
• Report to Director on technical and welfare issues
• Work independently and as part of a project team; support training of junior staff
• Travel to project sites as needed
• Assist in training and development of junior staff

Key requirements

• Chartered status (post-Chartership)
• MICE or MIStructE membership
• Post-chartership relevant experience
• Ability to manage projects with modest supervision
• Engineering judgement and independent decision-making
• MEng or BEng degree
• Willingness to travel to project sites
• Good communication skills
• Commitment to personal development and training
