Overview
Enthusiastic Principal Process Engineer sought to lead water and wastewater process design within AECOM’s Water Team. You will guide multi-disciplinary design through feasibility to construction, collaborating with clients and internal teams to deliver high-quality solutions. The role emphasizes technical leadership, safety reviews, and digital design tools to shape impactful water infrastructure. You’ll work across UK offices with hybrid flexibility and contribute to scalable projects that uplift communities.

Responsibilities
- Lead and review process design for water and wastewater projects, including site surveys and client liaison
- Perform hydraulic calculations, mass/energy balances, headloss and pumping system analyses
- Develop and review process equipment design, PFDs and P&IDs
- Prepare Hazardous Area Classification and LoPA analyses and participate in HAZOP/HAZID safety reviews
- Create technical specifications and reports; ensure compliance with design standards
- Engage in all design stages (Feasibility to Construction) and manage project delivery within budgets/timelines
- Collaborate with other discipline teams and communicate with clients; delegate tasks and mentor junior staff
- Lead bids and proposals, interfacing with clients to capture needs
- Review client deliverables (calculations, drawings, reports) to standards
- Contribute to AECOM’s digital strategy using BIM, Projectwise, intelligent P&ID, and in-house tools
- Work on projects for clients such as Severn Trent Water, Yorkshire Water, Wessex Water, South West Water, Southern Water, Thames Water, and Irish Water
Key requirements
- Extensive design experience in delivering large-scale water engineering projects with multi-disciplinary knowledge
- BEng or MEng in a related engineering field; Chartered member of a Professional Institution
- Proven experience in team leadership, mentoring and line management
- Experience managing projects, delegating tasks and providing technical mentoring
