Materials Engineer

Overview

In this role you will provide technical expertise across civil projects, focusing on materials testing, analysis, and compliance for a major earth-moving project near Peterhead. You’ll work with site and laboratory teams to ensure quality, regulatory adherence, and informed material choices. You’ll contribute to risk assessments, method statements, and project updates, driving reliable performance of construction materials. The position offers a hands-on, collaborative environment within a large energy infrastructure program that values learning and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Materials testing and analysis of aggregates, soils, concrete and asphalt to project specs and UKAS standards; interpret results and deliver technical reports
• Ensure adherence to quality management systems and relevant British Standards; support environmental and safety regulatory compliance
• Provide technical advice on material suitability, grading and performance to project teams; assist with issue resolution and troubleshooting
• Maintain accurate documentation of tests, calibrations and inspections; contribute to risk assessments and method statements for lab/site operations
• Collaborate with Senior Materials Technician and site engineers; participate in weekly project review meetings and report on material performance

Key requirements

• Experience in materials testing within construction or infrastructure.
• Knowledge of UKAS accreditation processes and relevant standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.
• Confident leading audits and staff development.
• Full driving licence.
• Health and safety conscientious on site and in the laboratory.
