Overview

In this role you support Weightmans’ Local Government team on high‑value and complex liability claims, including Inquiry and Human Rights Act matters. You will work under senior partners, with potential to handle your own lower‑value cases and progress to larger, autonomous matters. You’ll manage disclosure, obtain witness and expert evidence, and drive court deadlines while coordinating with clients, opponents, and witnesses. The role combines technical litigation, case management, and business development within a collaborative, national team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist on predominantly Inquiry claims and Human Rights Act-related matters
  • Support senior fee earners with case management, legal research, drafting witness statements, and instructions to experts and counsel
  • Prepare client reports and materials for court hearings; attend client meetings and court hearings
  • Respond promptly to client and third-party inquiries with supervision as needed
  • Meet set financial and chargeable targets
  • Support the team’s business development activities
  • Contribute to large-scale disclosure exercises and the day-to-day management of cases
  • Undertake liability investigations and ensure compliance with court deadlines
