Overview
As Operations Manager, you will own the day-to-day contract operation for a key customer in Wellingborough, leading a warehouse/3PL site. You will drive productivity, service levels, safety and P&L performance while developing your team and coordinating with customer and internal teams. You will implement continuous improvements to deliver throughputs and cost efficiency, shaping the service delivered to a high-profile client. This is a hands-on leadership role with visibility across operations and commercial targets.

Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day warehouse and 3PL operations (goods-in, receiving, putaway, picking, outbound, VAS, container processing)
- Ensure service levels and contractual KPIs are met
- Lead and develop supervisors and warehouse teams to sustain high performance
- Plan and manage resources to meet volume fluctuations and customer needs
- Monitor productivity, labour, costs and daily P&L against budgets
- Identify process improvements to boost productivity and service
- Drive continuous improvement and embed best practices
- Resolve operational issues quickly and effectively
- Maintain strong customer relationships through regular communication and reviews
- Manage subcontractors and external logistics partners to maintain performance
- Support import/export activities and ensure correct processes
- Ensure SOPs, health & safety requirements, and contractual obligations are followed
- Use data and KPIs to spot trends and drive improvements
- Collaborate with senior management to align with wider operational and commercial goals
- Proactively identify risks and implement preventative solutions
Key requirements
- Senior operations/contract management or warehouse management experience in 3PL/logistics/FMCG
- Experience leading warehouse teams and delivering against KPIs and service targets
- Commercial awareness including budgeting and cost management
- Strong stakeholder management and customer-facing confidence
- Experience managing subcontractors or third-party logistics partners
- Experience in high-volume, high-throughput warehouse environments
- Knowledge of warehouse systems and MHE (VNA, FLT, PPT)
- Understanding of health & safety, compliance and operational risk
- Experience with continuous improvement methods (Kaizen, Lean or Six Sigma) desirable
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, communication, organisation and leadership skills
