Operations Manager

Overview

In this role you will help ensure accurate data, robust processes, and well-run systems within the Birmingham Business Rates team. You will work closely with the Head of Operations to enhance data quality, operational efficiency, and onboarding of new client contracts. The position offers exposure across the Business Rates operation with opportunities for increasing responsibility as the team grows. The role combines hands-on data work with process improvement in a collaborative, hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate client and property data across Rating systems
• Assist mobilisation and onboarding of new client contracts
• Manage and monitor Rateable Value changes and related information
• Support Government Gateway claims and administration
• Handle incoming Valuation Office Agency and Scottish Assessor queries
• Oversee Forms of Return processes
• Process CCA and appeal settlements
• Produce and distribute variance reports to account teams
• Support invoicing and financial administration processes
• Maintain operational and process documentation
• Support system changes, upgrades and wider operational projects
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency
• Support audit, compliance and data-quality requirements

Key requirements

• Experience in Business Rates administration, operations, or similar roles
• Highly organised with the ability to work with large data volumes
• Detail-focused with emphasis on data accuracy
• Process-driven and capable of finding efficient ways of working
• Confident with systems and spreadsheets
• Able to coordinate across teams and stakeholders
• Capable of managing competing priorities and deadlines
• Willing to learn and take on greater responsibility
• Experience with Rating systems such as Riverlake, RatesData or Realise is advantageous
