Senior Project Controls (Defence Infrastructure)

Overview

As a Senior Project Controls Consultant at AECOM, you will lead and deliver project and programme controls for defence infrastructure initiatives, aligning cost, schedule, and risk with client objectives. You’ll integrate with the Integrated Programme Controls team to apply PMO best practices across large infrastructure projects. The role involves on-site or client office work in Glasgow up to three days weekly, focusing on cost capture, forecast accuracy, and dashboards that drive decision-making. You’ll contribute to a culture of delivery excellence and sustainable outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Establish and enhance cost control systems
• Oversee day-to-day cost data collection and cost management processes
• Lead budget establishment and monitoring across labour, equipment, materials, and subcontract costs
• Report costs versus activities and produce cost performance metrics
• Coordinate quantity tracking and variances with multiple stakeholders
• Prepare weekly/monthly cost flow, cash flow, and cost value reports
• Manage project cost forecasts and cost allocation reporting
• Deliver data analysis and dashboards using digital tools to support project decisions

Key requirements

• Extensive multi-discipline project experience, preferably Defence/Military/Port construction
• Knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts or similar and commercial awareness
• Strong organisational, coordination, and people management skills
• Advanced planning and scheduling, cost engineering, change control, risk and opportunity management
• PMO experience or solid understanding of PMO functions
• Experience in cost/risk analysis and large, complex infrastructure projects
• Proficiency with Primavera P6 and Power BI preferred
• Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Professional project management qualification (preferred)
• UK SC clearance eligibility and onsite work in Glasgow up to 3 days per week
