Overview

As Security Engineering Manager, you will build and lead a security engineering team at the AI-first frontier, shaping the security roadmap for our pioneering digital biology platform. You will translate scientific and business objectives into enterprise-grade security solutions, enabling fast ML research and drug discovery while maintaining strong risk governance. You’ll operate within a high-growth, Alphabet-backed environment to implement robust, scalable security architecture that enables velocity. Responsibilities

  • Mentor and scale a security engineering team to high impact delivery
  • Own and co-design the long-term technical security strategy (IAM, cloud/network security, Secure SDLC, security monitoring)
  • Lead transformation projects supporting frontier ML models and therapeutics
  • Oversee cloud and platform security leveraging AI and automated posture management
  • Develop KPI-driven security roadmaps and reporting to executives
  • Partner with medical and ML teams to maximize velocity while ensuring secure compute environments
  • Serve as technical liaison with Alphabet/Google ecosystem and security vendors
  • Act as senior escalation point for security incidents and architectural vulnerabilities

Key requirements

  • Engineering leadership in fast-paced scale-ups or high-growth tech organizations
  • Deep experience defining security architectures across complex, multi-tenant cloud systems
  • Industry exposure to AI/ML and life sciences security requirements
  • Detail-oriented with ability to translate strategy into concrete implementation
  • Bias for automation, scalable AI-enabled security workflows
  • Strong cloud engineering background (GCP preferred), Kubernetes/Docker, Zero Trust
  • Strong business and risk acumen for data-driven, agile decision making
  • Excellent translational communication skills for executives and non-security stakeholders
  • Nice to have: experience securing ML training lifecycles, model weights protection, guardrails for autonomous workflows
  • Nice to have: ISO/IEC frameworks, privacy/regulatory familiarity (GxP, FDA, EU AI Act)
  • Nice to have: Python or Go, Terraform, CI/CD security tooling, cloud security certifications (CISSP/CISM/OSCP)
