Associate Electrical Engineer

Overview

In this role, you contribute to HDR’s Building Engineering Services by leading electrical design and project oversight for mission-critical facilities. You’ll work with a cross-disciplinary team to translate design briefs into compliant, high-quality solutions, while managing client relations and project budgets. You’ll influence outcomes from concept to commissioning, driving safety, sustainability, and performance. This is an opportunity to shape critical infrastructure that supports AI-enabled data centers and modern work environments.

Responsibilities

• Monitor monthly project spend and forecast workload and CAD needs
• Proceed from concept design to detailed design, tender, site supervision, and completion with regular design reviews
• Ensure technical compliance and quality across designs and reports
• Maintain internal design reviews and checks
• Manage contract staff or third-party appointments and client relationships
• Develop new business opportunities and participate in company presentations
• Lead, motivate, and develop staff to build high-performing teams
• Track project progress, variations, and budgets
• Implement administration systems (timesheets, expenses) and staff holiday coordination
• Conduct staff PD plans and address performance with Divisional Director
• Identify training/CPD needs and implement QA systems and company health and safety measures
• Ensure CDM regulations and ISO 9001/14001 adherence

Key requirements

• Minimum 7 years’ experience in designing and managing mission-critical, datacentre projects
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Experience monitoring contract staff or third-party appointments is desirable
• Proficient in CAD production and liaison with other consultants
• Ability to manage ongoing projects with limited supervision
• Competency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook & PowerPoint
• Positive, professional attitude and team motivation
• Degree level qualification or equivalent (desirable) and ideally Chartered Engineer
• Ability to establish rapport within project teams and with clients
• Experienced with design software (Amtech, Dialux, Revit, Bluebeam) and mentoring juniors
• Experience on-site monitoring, contractor liaison, testing and commissioning
