Family Court Advisor needed for our CAFCASS team in Brighton, paying £36.50 ph

About the Role:

Cafcass is seeking an experienced Family Court Adviser (FCA) to support children, families and the family courts throughout complex family proceedings.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to use their safeguarding, assessment and analytical skills to ensure that the child’s welfare, wishes and best interests remain central to decision-making.

Key responsibilties:

• Undertake comprehensive assessments of children and families within family proceedings.
• Assess safeguarding concerns, risk and the impact of family circumstances on children.
• Undertake direct work with children to understand and represent their wishes and feelings.
• Analyse complex information and provide clear recommendations to the court.
• Prepare high-quality reports, assessments and written evidence.
• Work collaboratively with parents, carers, children and multi-agency professionals.
• Advise the court on child welfare and safeguarding matters.
• Manage a complex caseload effectively and maintain accurate case records.
• Negotiate and facilitate appropriate outcomes while maintaining a clear focus on the child’s welfare.
• Work professionally within sensitive and high-conflict situations.

The role includes Work After First Hearing (WAFH), involving ongoing work following the first court hearing.

This may include:

• Detailed assessments of children and families.
• Direct work with children and parents/carers.
• Further safeguarding and risk assessment.
• Preparing detailed reports for the court.
• Making ongoing recommendations regarding the child’s welfare and arrangements.
• Working with families and professionals to support outcomes that are focused on the child’s needs.
