Overview

In this role you will lead and grow the Employment practice in Bristol, steering strategic growth and expanding the firm’s employment presence in the Bristol market and wider South West. You will manage a profitable caseload, deepen client and referrer relationships, and shape pricing, scopes of work, and delivery. You’ll contribute to departmental planning and BD strategy while mentoring junior colleagues. This is a partnership-ready opportunity for an established practitioner with a following or a senior associate aiming for partnership within a collaborative, growth‑oriented firm.

Responsibilities

  • Manage own caseload efficiently and profitably
  • Build strong relationships with clients and referrers
  • Agree scopes of work, pricing structures and service delivery plans
  • Provide commercially focused employment advice across sectors
  • Contribute to departmental business planning and BD strategy
  • Expand network of clients, intermediaries and referrers
  • Support partners in targeting and winning new business
  • Develop internal networks to increase cross-referrals
  • Supervise, coach and delegate work to junior team members
  • Understand departmental KPIs and contribute to performance targets
  • Keep up to date with legal and sector developments and feed into strategy

Key requirements

  • 7+ years PQE in Employment law
  • Clear business plan for growing Bristol employment offering
  • Experience in Employment Tribunal litigation (desirable)
  • Strong client management and communication skills
  • Proven business development success and ability to win new work
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues
  • Collaborative, commercially minded approach
  • Following beneficial for Partner-level but not essential for Senior Associate
